SEQUIM — The city’s continuing growth has Clallam County Public Utility District eyeing a new electrical substation on Sequim’s east side.
Clallam PUD is seeking a special use permit from the city to build the 115-kilovolt Johnson Creek electrical distribution substation on 2.3 acres south of Spyglass Lane and east of Simdars Road.
“We need it,” said PUD Commissioner Hugh Haffner, adding that finding the power to serve the substation is another issue.
Clallam PUD serves Sequim, Forks and unincorporated county areas. The district now operates the Evergreen, Prairie and Sequim substations.
The Sequim Planning Commission will hold a public meeting on the matter at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
The commission will review the application and consider comments before making a recommendation to the City Council.
Then the City Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. June 26 at the Sequim Transit Center.
