PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles/Sequim gymnastics team bested three visiting squads in the team’s lone home meet of the season at Klahhane Gymnastics Center.
First-place Port Angeles scored 150.1 points, North Thurston was second with 129.6, Kingston third with 128.8 and North Kitsap finished fourth in Monday’s meet after posting a total of 113.8.
Port Angeles freshman Cassii Middlestead earned top individual honors, claiming first place in the all-around with a score of 32.45.
Middlestead won two of four events in the meet, after posting a score of 7.65 on the bars and an 8.8 on the balance beam.
She also was fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 7.9 and seventh in the vault after putting up an 8.1.
Roughriders sophomore Maya Wharton ended up third in the all-around with a total score of 31.25.
Wharton also won two events, claiming the floor exercise with a 9.0 and taking the vault with a score of 8.45.
Wharton also finished fifth on the bars and ninth on the beam.
Port Angeles senior Elizabeth DeFrang finished fourth in the all-around with a score 29.8.
DeFrang was third in the vault with a score of 8.4, fourth on the bars after posting a 6.5 and sixth in the floor exercise after putting up a 7.9. She also finished 14th on the beam with a score of 7.0.
Sequim’s highest-placing gymnast was junior Julie Pineau, who finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 29.15.
Pineau was steady, finishing third in the floor exercise with an 8.4, fourth on the beam with an 8.0, fourth in the vault with a total of 8.35 and seventh on the bars with a score of 5.2
Freshman Sydney Miner ended up sixth in the all-around for the Riders with a total of 28.7 points.
Miner was fifth in the vault and on the beam after an 8.3 and an 8.0, respectively, and also finished eighth on the bars and in the floor exercise with scores of 5.2 and 7.2.
Freshman Ennisa Albin of Sequim placed eighth overall in the all around with a 26.75.
Albin’s best finish, sixth on the beam, earned her a score of 7.8.
She also was 16th in the floor exercise after putting up a 6.0, 17th on the bars with a 4.4 and 18th on the vault with a score of 7.15.
Port Angeles senior Rozzi Piper rounded out the list of top-10 finishers for the Riders after coming in ninth in the all around with a score of 26.7.
Piper placed eighth in the vault after posting a 7.8 and ninth in the floor exercise after her routine earned a 7.1.
She also placed 11th on the beam with a score of 7.3 and finished 13th on the bars with a 4.5.
Port Angeles seniors Alyssa Wetzler and Elyse Lovgren earned their highest scores on the day on the beam.
Wetzler placed seventh after securing a score of 7.8 and Lovgren was 10th with a score of 7.4.
Port Angeles and Sequim gymnasts will next compete at Emerald Ridge in Puyallup on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
