PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwest Maritime Center breaks into another construction phase of the $10.1 million education project tonight with a dock demolition party.
The ceremony takes place at 6:15 p.m. at the Pope Marine Building, 100 Madison St.
A cake shaped like the 1930s Thomas Oil dock will be available for people to “demolish,” spokeswoman Shelly Randall said.
In October, the old dock at the northeast end of Water Street will be demolished to make way for a new pier.
The $1.2 million, 290-foot pier will be equipped for tall ships and larger vessels with 20 feet of draft. It will be completed this winter.
