PORT TOWNSEND — A rollerskating skateboarder, wearing a helmet and laying on his stomach, rolled head-first into a fire hydrant.
Firecrackers erupted.
Fire jugglers spun their flames.
And “Auld Lang Syne” rang out in the streets of downtown Port Townsend Tuesday night as more than 150 people celebrated a new year in front of the Bank of America building.
For the second year in a row, members of the People’s Republic of Port Townsend Marching Band banged their drums, blew their horns, twirled their flames and banners and helped local residents celebrate New Year’s Eve for free.
Port Townsend residents Kelly Force and Stefan Puchalski developed the parade idea last year because both felt there just wasn’t enough to do locally for New Year’s Eve.
“I try hard not to have any expectations, but it was pretty amazing,” said Force after the event.
