PORT ANGELES – The Port of Port Angeles approved a 2008 preliminary budget Monday that maintains the 2007 property tax rate.
Although the tax rate is estimated to remain the same, the amount collected will increase – primarily because of new construction.
The port’s 2008 property tax rate throughout Clallam County is estimated at 17 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation, or $34 per year for the owner of a $200,000 home.
The port expects its 2008 tax revenue to total $1.3 million, compared with an estimated $1.25 million in 2007.
The difference is due to new construction and the 1 percent increase in total property tax collections allowed by state law.
A public hearing on the budget and tax rate will be held Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at the port’s headquarters, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.
