PORT LUDLOW — Merchants took a look into a digital possibility and liked what they saw.
The concept of a “digital village” was pitched to business owners at a Port Ludlow Chamber of Commerce meeting by residents Dave Pike and Dean Mosier on Wednesday.
“Just imagine if you could sit down at your computer and go to just one site for your entire community,” Mosier said. “This is that site.”
Mosier asked for a show of hands in the room of who supported the idea.
Nearly every hand was raised.
Pike said the intent is to help increase the marketing ability of local businesses in the area and bring the community together in one place.
“Our intent is not to make money on this,” Pike said.
Mosier said they intend to set up a nonprofit corporation that would build a monetary reserve of profits. That reserve would pay for monthly fees for the site, and then be distributed back into the community.
The initial startup cost of the site was estimated at about $10,000. Mosier and Pike said they have not determined how to pay for it.
Mosier said the Port Ludlow Chamber of Commerce informed him that the board would meet and discuss whether or not it would support a Digital Village site.
