Port Angeles: Whidbey pilots tell students about Afghan duty

PORT ANGELES — Three representatives from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station who served aboard the USS Enterprise during Operation Enduring Freedom spoke Wednesday to freshmen about the war in Afghanistan.

Students received lessons in geography, national policy and U.S. Navy operations during the hour-long assembly from officers who are members of Electronic Attack Squadron 141.

“It was very informative,” student Nick Ross said after the presentation. “The Navy does a lot more than I thought they did.”

Executive officer Cmdr. Pete Pellegrino, Lt. Tige Korsmo and Lt. j.g. Liz Walker spoke to freshmen throughout Wednesday.

“In two generations, everyone who is leading the country will be dead, you will be the leaders,” Pellegrino told students. “You will be making decisions that will influence the country and the world, you need to get ready for that.”
