PORT ANGELES – Gary Cohn, superintendent of the Port Angeles School District, is one of two finalists for superintendent of the Issaquah School District in King County.
Cohn will visit the much-larger district of 16,000 students and 22 schools for a second round of interviews on April 17.
The Issaquah School Board will consider taking action on April 18.
“I’m honored. I’m flattered,” said Cohn, who has been superintendent of the Port Angeles district, which enrolls 4,168 students, since 2001.
“It’s a tremendous statement about what the team in this school district has accomplished as much as anything else,” Cohn said.
Port Angeles School Board President Charlie McClain, said the larger district would be both a challenge and an opportunity should Cohn move there.
“I’m very happy for him,” McClain said, adding:
“I’m not going to write him off yet. “He’s done a tremendous job for our school district.
“If Dr. Cohn leaves us, he’ll leave a large hole that we’ll need to fill, but he has left a wonderful legacy with the improvements he has made in our district,” McClain said.
