PORT ANGELES — They make great conversation pieces and are perfect for spanning those twin 750-foot-long, 100-foot-high ravines on the back forty.
They also make the perfect birthday gift for the man or woman who has everything, including ravines.
The two Eighth Street bridges across Tumwater and Valley creeks are for sale by the city as part of the $20 million bridge replacement project.
Proposals from potential purchasers, including a suggested price and future use, must be submitted to City Traffic Engineer Jim Mahlum by Jan. 31.
Proposal packets are available by calling Mahlum at 360-417-4701 and or e-mailing him at jmahlum@cityofpa.us.
Several catches involved
But there’s several catches to the city’s offer.
The most significant of which is the buyer can’t just use the historic timber trestle spans as kindling.
They must be used as bridges wherever they are relocated because of their historical value.
“You have to put them back as bridges, that’s the key issue here,” Mahlum said.
“You must have a site to use them, a gully or ravine that’s 750 feet long and 100 feet high, then use them as bridges for transportation.”
