PORT ANGELES — An ice cream social at 6 p.m. today will herald Port Angeles’ new “Dream Playground” at Erickson Park on Race Street across from Civic Field.
The playground will be open for two hours of playtime, then will be closed until Wednesday to allow for a safety inspection.
Volunteers are still needed today for the final day of building the 15,000-square-foot playground.
The first shift begins at 7:30 a.m.
Organizers need metal detectors this morning and midafternoon to locate and remove nails and screws from the playground floor.
People with metal detectors should report to the volunteer booth to fill out a city permit form.
People who have donated tools for the playground should pick them up Sunday evening or between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday.
