Port Angeles is getting 30,000 flower bulbs for free, and community members will spend the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday planting them in downtown concrete planters.
Horticulturist and PDN garden columnist Andrew May, coordinating the effort for the Chamber of Commerce, said Monday that the Fred Meyer Corp. is donating the bulbs, valued at $12,000, as part of its community beautification programs.
May said volunteers can join him Monday at 9 a.m. in the Red Lion Hotel parking lot for the eight-hour planting.
Oregon-based Fred Meyer’s donation was arranged by future Port Angeles resident Kate McDermitt, who contacted May.
“Dress for the weather of the day, bring some gloves and, if you can, bring a wheelbarrow,” May said.
