PORT ANGELES — Members of the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday hailed the new Station Port Angeles as a long-awaited and positive step for the Coast Guard and the community.
“For many years we have tried to provide operational capabilities here on the water with a partial solution,” said Rear Adm. Jeffrey Garrett, commander of the Seattle-based 13th Coast Guard District, which covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
Establishing the new small boat station is a “milestone” in the Coast Guard’s ability, he said.
“It’s really an exciting day when you can see a long-range vision come to reality.”
Garrett’s comments came during a ceremony Friday morning at the Ediz Hook station to establish the district’s newest station, housed at Group/Air Station Port Angeles.
