Port Angeles: Kalakala meeting tonight

Residents supporting the restoration of the classic ferry Kalakala and possibly mooring it in Port Angeles Harbor meet at 7 tonight at The Tempest, 535 E. First St.

The Kalakala’s new owner, Steve Rodrigues, will address a meeting of Port Angeles boosters who would like to see the art deco vessel returned to the place where it operated to Victoria in the 1950s.

Kalakala restoration supporter Bill Zynda said there is a possibility that Rodgrigues will discuss a site in the harbor to moor the vessel “that would fit into the inner harbor master plan.”

Rodrigues is seeking a letter of support from the Port Angeles City Council to help secure a federally guaranteed loan to help restore the rusted vessel, which needs $7 million in work.
