Port Angeles: Candidate replaces campaign treasurer who disrupted School Board meeting

PORT ANGELES — School Board candidate Pete Peterson changed treasurers Tuesday after police were asked to escort his former treasurer from a School Board meeting Monday night.

Port Angeles resident Brian Pettyjohn voluntarily left the meeting when police arrived after forcing the School Board to recess for about 10 minutes because of his continuous interruptions.

Peterson, director of Clallam County Juvenile and Family Services, is challenging incumbent Charlie McClain for Position No. 1 on the five member board. Voters will determine who serves the four-year term during the Nov. 4 general election.

McClain, the board president, stopped Monday night’s meeting and called police to remove Pettyjohn, who repeatedly interrupted other speakers during the public comment period.

“As of today (Tuesday), Karen Lavender-Peterson will be my joint member on this campaign account and will formally be listed as my treasurer,” Peterson said in a news release.

“Furthermore, I am my own campaign manager, receiving assistance from many community members on my campaign.”
