A door on an HH-65A Dolphin helicopter stationed at Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles fell into Puget Sound during a training exercise Wednesday.
There were no injuries during the incident, and no other damage to the helicopter or other equipment in the training area.
Coast Guard officials reported the crew of the helicopter jettisoned the sliding cabin door after realizing it was not operating properly.
The door fell about 25 feet. A Coast Guard vessel that had been part of the training exercise recovered it. The door had minor damage.
The helicopter, carrying the Coast Guard call sign 6563, was flown to Boeing Field in Seattle and found to be undamaged by inspectors.
The door is 3½ feet wide and 3 feet tall, according to a Coast Guard spokesman.
