PORT ANGELES — Platypus Marine General Manager Bruce Bryant says he would welcome Westport Shipyard to the community — but hopes his company’s needs would be met when it needs to expand.
After community leaders and residents Monday night gave overwhelming support for a luxury yacht-building facility to be built by Westport adjacent to Platypus’ repair yard, Bryant said his company wouldn’t necessarily be “hemmed in” from growing.
Platypus and Westport Shipyard have always worked well together, said Bryant, and there may be “other options” that could be pursued so Platypus could get more land.
“We just want to make sure our needs can be met,” said Bryant.
The 12-year-old company said late last week it has plans to expand from 70 employees to 150 within the next two years.
Platypus Marine President Judd Linnabary said the company was interested in buying or leasing the same three acres being considered by Westport.
