Pickup crashes into market’s door

PORT ANGELES — A pickup truck crashed into the front doors of the Mount Pleasant IGS grocery store Tuesday.

Owner Glen Johnson said the driver, identified by Clallam County Sheriff Deputy Josh Ley as 23-year-old Taylor Cooney, told him his brakes failed.

“He felt horrible, the young man did,” he said.

Ley said Cooney will not be cited.

The Chevrolet truck hit the doors at about 10:30 a.m. No one was injured.

“I just heard a loud crash,” said store cashier Barb Anders, who was working at the time of the crash.

Johnson said he was working in his office at the time when he heard a “loud bang.”

“We’re lucky no one was going in and out of the door,” he said.

Johnson said a temporary door will be put in place until the glass doors can be replaced.

In the meantime, the store remains open.
