Officials in Jefferson and Clallam counties have been gearing up for the election changes for some time.
“This is one of the reasons why we did the consolidation of precincts and polling places,” Jefferson County Auditor Donna Eldridge said Saturday.
Clallam County officials are checking out new optical scanning systems that have been approved by the state, Auditor Cathleen McKeown said.
“We’re working on it and we plan to be ready,” she said.
Clallam County may face a cost of $40,000 to $60,000 to purchase new software to connect the county to the statewide voter registration system, McKeown said.
“That will not be covered by any federal money,” she said.
