North Olympic Peninsula conservation district boards have scheduled elections in March.

The candidate filing period for the Jefferson County Conservation District ended Tuesday, while the period for the Clallam district is open until 4 p.m. Feb. 14.

The Jefferson County election will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the district office in Shold Business Park at 205 W. Patison St., Port Hadlock.

The position held by Julie Boggs is up for election this year. The position held by Glen Hunt ing ford is up for appointment.

The Clallam County election for the three-year term of office now held by Marilyn Pollock will be Monday, March 14. Pollock is not seeking re-election.

There will be two polling stations where registered voters in Clallam County can cast their votes: the Sequim Public Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The completed nomination petition, including the 25 signatures, must be verified by the conservation district in order for the candidate to be listed on the ballot.

Voters who are unable to cast their votes at the polling places may request an absentee ballot.

Absentee ballots must be requested by 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.

Forms may be obtained from the Clallam Conservation District, 1601 E. Front St., Building A, Suite A, Port Angeles, WA 98362; by phoning 360-452-1912, ext. 5; or by visiting the state Conservation Commission website at www.scc.wa.gov.

Kyle Zimmerman, co-owner of The Hub at Front and Lincoln streets in downtown Port Angeles, adds a new coat of paint on Wednesday to an advertising sign on the back of his building that was uncovered during the demolition of a derelict building that once hid the sign from view. Zimmerman said The Hub, formerly Mathews Glass and Howe's Garage before that, is being converted to an artist's workspace and entertainment venue with an opening set for late May or early June. Although The Hub will have no control over any new construction that might later hide the automotive signs, Zimmerman said restoring the paint is an interesting addition to the downtown area for as long as it lasts.
