Both of Port Angeles School District’s tax levies appeared headed toward defeat Tuesday, but a replacement levy for Quillayute Valley School District was hovering near passage.
With a 60 percent “supermajority” required for passage, first returns tallied Tuesday show:
* Port Angeles’ four-year, $26.8 million replacement maintenance and operations, or M&O, levy was losing with 3,920 “yes” votes for 54.4 percent, against 3,286 “no” votes, 45.5 percent.
* Port Angeles’ separate technology levy, which would have raised $3.6 million over four years to purchase computers and training for students and teachers, apparently was defeated with 3,632 “yes” votes for 50.5 percent, against 3,560 “no” votes, or 49.5 percent.
* Quillayute Valley’s $2.28 million, four-year M&O levy was less than a percentage point above the supermajority required for passage.
A total of 1,270 “yes” votes, or 60.6 percent, were cast, compared with 499 “no” votes for 39.4 percent.
County Auditor Cathleen McKeown cautioned that more than 1,500 ballots are yet to be counted in Port Angeles and more than 114 in the Quillayute Valley district are yet to be counted.
The next tally will be conducted Friday.
