ONE WIN FROM REPEAT: Neah Bay holds off Lummi to earn another trip to state football title game

TACOMA — Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. connected on fourth down with Cameron Buzzell for a 28-yard touchdown pass to give Neah Bay a 26-20 lead over Lummi with 5:42 left in the Class 1B semifinal at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday.

The Red Devils’ defense held on from there and Neah Bay clinched its fourth consecutive trip to the state championship game. There the Red Devils will face the last team to defeat them: Liberty Christian.

Next Saturday’s championship, also at the Tacoma Dome, will be a rematch of the 2012 title game, which the Patriots won on a last-second touchdown run by John Lesser.

In Saturday’s semifinal, Lummi stifled the Neah Bay offense for much of the game, but the Red Devils made enough big plays to pull off a hard-fought win, their third over the Blackhawks this season.
