OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — There’s no question about it, says Steve McCabe, barbecuing and chowing down on oysters, salmon and ribs at a mile high is just plain fun.
That’s the whole idea behind the annual Spring Carnival at Hurricane Ridge — fun, games and good food.
The weekend festival on Sunday featured an early Easter egg hunt and games for special-needs youths, slalom ski races on a steep new Ridge slope, and lots of family fun.
“What kind of kitchen provides that kind of view?” McCabe said Sunday afternoon, gesturing with his barbecue tongs toward a spectacular view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the northern horizon of Hurricane Hill.
McCabe joined by his father, Julian, and 13-year-old daughter, Chloe, served more than 200 hungry Spring Carnival participants and skiers under a yellow and white awning perched high over the slalom hill.
They helped the Hurricane Ridge Development Authority pull off the event.
