Olympic Medical Center Foundation raises record amount at Red, Set, Go! luncheon

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Medical Center Foundation has raised a record amount at its 10th annual Red, Set, Go! Heart Luncheon.

The event, presented last Friday by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe at the Vern Burton Community Center, produced proceeds of $61,000 that will go toward purchasing devices to help in code blue situations, specifically with giving feedback on quality of compression and ventilator support.

More than 270 people attended the “Prevention Is Better Than the Cure” luncheon, which featured Dr. Kara Urnes from Olympic Medical Heart Center and Dr. Fran Boyles of Swedish Medical Center, both of whom spoke on heart health education, and Betsy Schultz, who delivered the survivor story.

The educational lunch was intended to promote the idea that the key to eradicating heart disease is education.

“The purpose of our event is to inspire women to become more educated to improve their heart health,” Urnes said.

“Many women are surprised to learn that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.”

OMC Foundation Executive Director Bruce Skinner said the foundation is still taking donations toward the purchase of compression devices. Those interested in contributing can call 360-417-7144.
