North Olympic Peninsula AARP Tax-Aide seeks new volunteers

PORT ANGELES —

AARP Tax-Aide is looking for new volunteers to prepare federal income tax returns for the upcoming tax season.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

Tax-Aide volunteers provide free tax-return preparation and electronic filing for low- and middle-income members of the community.

New volunteers work with experienced volunteers at locations such as libraries and community centers.

Training begins in December using training materials and software provided by the IRS.

All volunteers must attend training classes and pass the IRS test before assisting taxpayers during the tax season.

The Tax-Aide program is sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation.

Participants don’t need to be an AARP member or retiree to volunteer, or to receive tax-preparation services from AARP Tax-Aide.

Volunteers need to have basic computer skills and enjoy preparing income tax returns and helping others.

Potential volunteers can complete an application at www.aarp.org/taxaide or phone 888-687-2277.
