Port Angeles police said Monday they have no new information on a false report of an “officer-involved shooting” broadcast on a police radio frequency Saturday evening.
The 8:43 p.m. report said there had been a shooting involving an officer at the New Peking Restaurant and Lounge on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles.
A dozen law enforcement officers from the Port Angeles and Lower Elwha Klallam police departments, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Border Patrol quickly arrived at the nightspot with guns drawn.
No evidence of a shooting was found, and police determined the call to be a hoax.
“We haven’t uncovered anything new,” said Port Angeles Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith on Monday.
Smith said all police radios and police personnel have been checked to no avail.
“We don’t have any new information,” Smith said.
It is illegal to make a false report or to use a police frequency without permission.
News of the false report moved nationally on The Associated Press on Sunday, one week after four Lakewood police officers were gunned downed at a cafe near Tacoma.
