NEWS BRIEFS: Trail section to be blocked Wednesday … and other items

AGNEW — A section of the Olympic Discovery Trail will be blocked for the day Wednesday.

The trail will be blocked from Barr Road to Pinnell Road near McDonald Creek for unsafe tree removal for the entire day, according to a Monday press release from the Peninsula Trails Coalition.

The work is being performed by Clallam County.

Accredited financial designation

PORT ANGELES — Danielle Rivers of Edward Jones has achieved the professional designation of accredited asset management specialist.

Rivers successfully completed the Professional Education Program from the Denver-based College for Financial Planning.

Those who complete the program, pass a final exam, and sign a code of ethics and disclosure form earn the designation.

The advanced training offers investment professionals the hands-on information needed to provide comprehensive financial services, according to a news release.

Study topics include understanding the asset management process and understanding asset allocation and strategies, according to the release.

Honor roll

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare has been named to the state Department of Health’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll.

The certification represents the hospital’s incorporation of the state’s stewardship program’s seven key core elements.

The elements are leadership commitment, accountability for program outcomes, drug expertise, improvement action, tracking and monitoring, regular reporting and education practices about antibiotic resistance.

Jefferson Healthcare is the first Critical Access Hospital to be recognized in the state, according to the release.

Jefferson Healthcare created a team that has worked to implement and hardwire best practices to implement safe prescribing practices.

The team, led by Dr. Tracie Harris, includes Dr. Joe Mattern, Cheryl Gomez, Lanny Turay, Shannon DeWolf, Laura Showers, Christine Roberts, Cindy Fox, Brandie Manuel and Penny Westerfield.

Director named

PORT ANGELES — Stefanie Arp, RN, MSN, was recently named director of emergency services at Olympic Medical Center.

Arp has worked as a nurse since 1987 and became a trauma nurse specialist in 2001.

“Stefanie will be a tremendous resource for the frontline staff in our emergency department and trauma unit,” said Lorraine Wall, RN, chief nursing officer and hospital chief operating officer.

“This position will allow me to continue with my passion of caring for the critically ill,” Arp said in a news release.
