SEQUIM — A rally for the release of American Pastor Saeed Abedini from jail in Iran will be held at Calvary Chapel, 91 Boyce Road, at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Boise, Idaho, minister is serving out a sentence of eight years on charges related to his Christian faith.
Concerned citizens will gather in Sequim and at similar vigils around the world to pray for his safe release and call upon their governments to act on his behalf.
Sea bird lecture set
FORKS — Scott Horton, region wildlife biologist at the state Department of Natural Resources, will give a lecture on sea birds of the Olympic Peninsula at the Olympic Natural Resources Center, 1455 S. Forks Ave.
The talk is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
The event is free and open to the public.
Horton has more than 35 years of experience on the waters and birds surrounding the Peninsula.
Friday’s talk will provide an overview of how birds use the Olympic Peninsula waters and shorelines in their various life histories, as well as a summary of trends shown by long-term population monitoring and an introduction to conservation issues.

Italian dinner to benefit PA school
PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Italy and the Queen of Angels Parents Club will host an Italian dinner to benefit tuition assistance for Queen of Angels School in the Queen of Angels gym, 209 W. 11th St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Old Sidekicks will provide entertainment during the dinner.
Tickets are available for presale at the school office for $12 per adult; $8 per child, K-8; or $38 per family.
Children younger than 5 eat free.
Tickets also can be purchased at the door the day of the dinner for $15 per adult; $10 per child, K-8; or $45 per family
The menu is spaghetti with marinara sauce, pasta with garlic and olive oil, homemade meatballs and Italian sausage, garlic bread, spumoni ice cream and beverages.
A vegetarian menu is available.
Bingo marathon
FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, will host a bingo marathon from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Most games will cost a quarter, with food and beverages available for purchase.
The event will benefit the Elks National Foundation.
Pancake breakfast
SEQUIM — The Sequim Prairie Grange will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road.
The menu consists of pancakes, eggs and ham.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.
Some proceeds will benefit The Answer for Youth.
Boy Scout gets award from trust
SEQUIM — Boy Scout Sean Weber recently was presented with a $1,000 McCall Trust Award from the Rotary Club of Sequim.
Sean is the son of Carl and Asma Weber, president of his eighth-grade class at Sequim Middle School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 90.
He is building a three-tier water feature at the Dungeness River Audubon Center as his Eagle Scout-qualifying project.
The permanent structure was conceived and planned by Sean to enhance the park’s wildlife setting.
He collected more than $3,000 in donations to fund the project and is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first day of the Dungeness River Festival, scheduled Saturday and Sunday.
