Landing practice

COUPEVILLE — There will be field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island at the outlying field late afternoon to early evening, then night to late night Monday through Thursday.

Aircraft carrier-based flight training also will occur at Ault Field late morning to early afternoon Monday and Tuesday.

Training will continue Friday afternoon.

SmileMobile

CHIMACUM — The Arcora Foundation — formerly the Washington Dental Service Foundation — SmileMobile will be available Monday through Friday, July 24-28.

The truck — a 39-foot dental clinic on wheels — will provide dental access to children ages 0 to 18 at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, on Monday and Tuesday, July 24-25.

From Wednesday through Friday, July 26-28, the truck will be available for follow-up treatment appointments.

SmileMobile accepts Medicaid insurance and provides a sliding-fee scale.

The Washington Dental Service Foundation, which provides the SmileMobile, advises those interested in treatment follow-ups to make an appointment in advance by calling 888-286-9105.

Little library installed

PORT ANGELES — The Happy Explorers Camp Fire Club with Revitalize Port Angeles and the city Parks & Recreation Department have installed a new little library in Jesse Webster Park.

Members of the public can take or trade a book at the little library outside the camp fire clubhouse, 619 E. Fourth St. Utilizing a “take a book, return a book” system, the library will be stocked and maintained by the club, though anyone interested can drop off a book.

Revitalize built and supplied the library structure.

The library is part of the club’s ongoing community service project “to add small, but impactful changes to the park to make it better and more inviting to the community,” according to a news release.

“The children came up with a list of items they wanted to see improved, added or changed in the park where the clubhouse sits,” said Darcey Beck, club leader.

Volunteer orientation

PORT ANGELES — First Step is seeking volunteers for various activities throughout the summer and will hold a child care assistant orientation class from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 27.

The orientation will be held at First Step’s administration building, 323 E. Sixth St.

Activities include literacy and school readiness, sorting, organizing and folding clothes for Clothing Closet, landscaping, interior maintenance and child care support groups.

Registration is required for the orientation.

Healthy leg day

PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy will hold a free “Healthy Leg Day” event Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those interested can stop by the pharmacy, 424 E. Second St., and meet with a Juzo-brand compression clothing representative for a free leg screening and fitting.

Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling the pharmacy’s Home Health Department at 360-457-3462. Walk-ins also are welcome.

KONP talk guests

UW graduate

SEATTLE — Amy McIntyre of Port Angeles graduated from the University of Washington on June 9.

McIntyre earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in integrated social sciences.

She is the daughter of Susan Shane of Forks and the mother of Imogen Fraser of Port Angeles.

Degree given

PORT TOWNSEND — Dr. Jonathan Collin received a Doctor of Letters honorary degree from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Ore., on July 1.

Collins is an integrative family medicine physician who provides service in Port Townsend and Kirkland.

The degree, Litt.D., recognizes his long-term work providing a forum and journal for physicians involved in integrative and complementary alternative medicine and naturopathic medicine.
