NEWS BRIEFS — Dog Days Fun Run rolls into Port Angeles this Sunday, with Saturday fundraiser . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — The second annual Dog Days 10K Fun Run will be held Sunday.
The run on the Adventure Route of the Olympic Discovery Trail will raise funds for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.
The cost is $35 per person.
Participation is limited to 125 registrants.
Participants can register online, at the event Sunday or at Harbinger Winery, 358 W. U.S. Highway, during a “Yappy Hour” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Humane Society will have animals available for adoption, and a portion of the evening’s sales will go to the Humane Society.
On Sunday, Fun Run participants will meet at 9:30 a.m., and the run/walk will begin at 10 a.m.
The run will be on the Olympic Adventure Trail, starting and ending in the large parking lot located 1 mile up Dan Kelly Road on the left.
The untimed run will be a 10K loop that includes single-track forested trail as well as a portion of forested gravel road.
Top individual fundraisers will win prizes, and volunteers will be at registration/start line to take additional donations.

Climate change
BLYN — Climate change will be topic of the next quarterly meeting of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today.
The group will meet at the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe’s Red Cedar Hall, located within the tribal community center on Old Blyn Highway.
Speakers will talk on climate change, and members of the network will get a brief overview of the recently funded project, titled “Planning for Climate Change on the North Olympic Peninsula.”

Pastor installation
FORKS — Members and friends of First Congregational Church/United Church of Christ are invited to attend the installation and licensing service of the Rev. Warren Johnson as their pastor.
The service is at the church, 280 S. Spartan Ave., at 11 a.m. Saturday.
There will be a potluck after the service in the fellowship hall. Side dishes or dessert can be brought; the church will provide meat and drinks.
After serving the church for the past six years in the role of lay pastor, Johnson in August received his ministerial license through the United Church of Christ Northwest Conference.
Unity service
PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday with guest speaker the Rev. Deborah Brandt.
Her lesson will be “Affirmation Power.”
Brandt will discuss training oneself to believe what one is telling oneself to believe.
A picnic potluck will follow.
Free child care is available during the 10:30 a.m. service.
A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Back to Church
PORT ANGELES — Hillcrest Baptist Church, 205 Black Diamond Road, will hold a Back to Church day of celebration beginning at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
Sunday school for all ages starts it off, followed by an 11 a.m. church service.
The event concludes with a picnic (hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and dessert) and fellowship.
All are welcome.

AGNEW — Congregation Olympic B’nai Shalom invites all Jews to celebrate the High Holidays for 5775.
Student Rabbi Dusty Klass, a Seattle native, will lead services.

Healing service
PORT ANGELES — A nondenominational service of healing will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., at 7 p.m. Thursday.
All are welcome.
The simple service of prayer music and light brings people together to ask God to bring healing (body, mind or spirit) to themselves, their families, their community, the Earth or the nations of the Earth.
Laying on of hands and anointing will be offered.
