PT coffee talk

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Main Street Program will host a coffee talk about the 2018 Water Street Enhancement Program slated for January-June 2018 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10.

City staff and SCJ Alliance members will provide information about the future project and be available for a Q&A session in the Cotton Building, located at 607 Water St.

The cost is $5 for Main Street members and $7 for nonmembers.

Refreshments will be served.

Those interested in attending need to make reservations before Monday, May 8.

Reservations can be made by emailing admin@mainstreet.org or phoning the program’s office at 360-385-7911.

Water Street serves as the public entrance and first impression to historic Port Townsend, yet the streets and sidewalks in many places are inadequate, unsafe and could be more inviting for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers, according to a news release.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County honors its 2016 community partners

SEQUIM — Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County recently honored its 2016 community partners at its annual “Taste of Peninsula: Celebrating Community Partners” fundraising event.

The honorees are Margaret Crayton, Maize Maloney Outstanding Volunteer; Outstanding Volunteer Group, Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club; Port Angeles Community Partner, Olympic Disposal; Sequim Community Partner, The Cedars at Dungeness; Outstanding Community Service, Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club; and Anna Nichols, Outstanding Leadership.

“Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County could not be as successful as it is without the support and dedication we receive from our honorees,” said Habitat’s executive director, Cyndi Hueth.

The funds raised through the event will benefit Habitat’s program of building and repairing homes in partnership with people living in poor conditions.

Free septic classes set for Sequim

SEQUIM — Clallam County Environmental Health will offer free septic training classes Tuesday, May 16, and Wednesday, June 7.

The class, titled “Septic 101” is an introductory class for those interested in learning more about septic systems.

Both classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Railroad Bridge Park, located at 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

This class is a prerequisite for Septic 201 and on its own does not result in certification.

Septic 201, a “Do-It-Yourself Self-Inspection” class, provides an overview of the what, why and how of safely inspecting a septic system and includes an instructional video, a brief demonstration and a short exam.

Not all septic systems are eligible for homeowner inspection, and systems located in the Marine Recovery Area — between Bagley Creek watershed and the eastern county boundary — must have an initial inspection by a licensed septic inspector, according to a news release.

Preregistration for classes is required.

To register, visit www.clallam.net/septic or phone the environmental health office at 360-417-2506.
