OSPI budget survey

Public input is sought by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for its K-12 budget through an online survey.

The survey is open and can be accessed online at www.k12.wa.us. The survey will close until Friday, June 8.

Participants are asked to complete the entire survey, which is expected to take about five minutes, according to a news release.

Survey data will be used to assist OPSI as it develops a budget with the aim to create a system individualized to meet the needs of all learners, according to the release.

Sequim Rotary recognizes students

SEQUIM — Three Sequim High School Students were recognized by the Sequim Rotary Club as Students of the Month.

The students are senior Angela Carrillo-Burge, and juniors Heidi O’Leary and Emily Bundy.

Each month, the club identifies a student that exemplifies good citizenship.

Carrillo-Burge is involved with student government, holding the office of treasurer for her junior class and senator for her senior class.

O’Leary is an intern at the Boys & Girls Club and club Youth of the Year candidate who recently attended a Seahawks game at Century Link Field and received — on behalf of the club — two $10,000 grants.

The grants were awarded by the Spirit of 12 Partners for the purchase of additional computers and software for the computer room at the club.

Bundy — a straight-A student — worked with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office to bring the Grim Reaper exhibit to the high school.

Each student received a letter from the club to use in their scholarship notebooks citing the student’s exemplary qualities along with a Certificate of Recognition for display.

They then had the opportunity to introduce themselves, their parents and guests and talk about their high school experience, current activities and future goals.

Port Townsend students honored

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend High School seniors Cecelia Nielsen, Corinne Pierson and Joseph Calodich were recognized as the Sunrise Rotary Club of Port Townsend’s March students of the month.

The students were accompanied by their parents at an award ceremony during a March 21 Rotary meeting.

Nielson, daughter of Seb and Jennifer Nielsen, plans to major in physics and eventually become an astronaut.

Pierson, daughter of Chris Pierson and Jamie Barnes, seeks to pursue history and math.

Calodich, son of Joe and Shirley Calodich, will major in civil engineering and/or politics.

John Polm, school district superintendent, attended the ceremony and congratulated the students.

The club recognizes high school students selected by teachers, coaches, and club advisers from January to June.
