PORT TOWNSEND – The state Department of Health is compiling comments from Port Townsend residents who are concerned that air emissions coming from the Port Townsend Paper Corp.’s mill could be harmful to their health.
A report of the complaints, called a consultation, is expected to be in draft form in early October.
It will be forwarded to the state Department of Ecology, which oversees the mill’s five-year air-emissions permit that was renewed January of this year.
That permit is currently being appealed, with an appeal hearing scheduled for February 2008.
If the permit is pulled, the mill could not operate.
Port Townsend Paper Corp. employs about 330 people at the mill and is the largest private employer in Jefferson County.
