More charges possible for man accused of child rape

PORT ANGELES — More charges are expected to be filed against Dwayne A. Marcum, who pleaded not guilty last week to child rape involving a 2-year-old.

Marcum, 39, of 201 W. 16th St., Suite C, Port Angeles, was arraigned Friday in Clallam County Superior Court on charges of first-degree rape of a child, first-degree child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor and first-degree possession of a depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Judge George L. Wood also set a status hearing for 9 a.m. Aug. 31 and a trial for Sept. 24.

Marcum was arrested July 24 after a digital camera and a flash drive that authorities say are his were found July 20 in a wooded area west of Port Angeles.

Marcum told authorities that the flash drive contained photos and movies depicting child pornography and two photos of him molesting a child, according to court records.

County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ann Lundwall said Friday she expects to file more charges against Marcum when the state Crime Lab completes its forensic examination of the flash drive.

“There is an ongoing investigation,” she said.

Marcum was being held Monday in Clallam County jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.

He told authorities that the camera that was found resembled a camera he owned that was missing, but that the flash drive was his, according to the probable-cause statement.

Marcum said he had received the flash drive anonymously in the mail several years ago from someone trying to blackmail him, and did not put the images on it.

He did not report the alleged blackmail attempt to authorities.

“Marcum stated he has been diagnosed with a split personality, and he doesn’t remember doing these things,” the probable-cause statement said.
