CHIMACUM — Has a proposal to install a public system to provide potable water to all of Marrowstone Island been stopped by property owners who opposed the plan?
“It looks doubtful,” said David Sullivan, a commissioner with Jefferson County Public Utility District No. 1, after a public hearing on the plan Tuesday night drew about 125 people to the Chimacum fire station.
Commissioner Wayne King, who helped count protest letters before attending Tuesday night’s meeting, agreed with Sullivan’s assessment.
However, the exact tally of protest “votes” against building the $4.4 million public water system won’t be released until today at the earliest.
The Marrowstone Island water system plan is listed on the agenda for tonight’s PUD board meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. again at the Chimacum fire station, 9193 Rhody Drive.
The results of Tuesday’s protest count could affect the focus of that discussion.
