PORT ANGELES — A 24-year-old man was found dead in his east Port Angeles motel room Friday morning after apparently bringing a still-smoldering barbecue into the room and then suffocating.
The man, identified by his employer as Carlos Alcudia, was in Port Angeles with a work crew that was repairing the roof of Gai’s Bakery, 2920 E. Highway 101.
Investigators do not believe foul play was involved, but an autopsy has been ordered to verify the cause of death.
Had been grilling steaks
Emergency medical personnel responded to the Sportsmen Motel, 2909 E. Highway 101, at about 7 a.m.
Alcudia, who had been working for Commercial Industries Co. out of Bellevue since November, had grilled steaks with the job foreman Andy McFarland the night before.
McFarland, 31, went to bed about 10 p.m., he told the Peninsula Daily News. When he awoke Friday morning, he took Alcudia’s pulse and found him not breathing and cold.
