The men and women who carried the torch across the North Olympic Peninsula on Wednesday exceeded Ron Cameron’s expectations.
Cameron, the chief criminal deputy who organized the Special Olympics torch run for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, guessed that it would take until about noon for the runners to reach Railroad Bridge Park from Port Angeles for lunch with the Clallam County Special Olympics team.
But the runners were 40 minutes ahead of schedule, he said.
And the runners were doing it all with a smile.
“I just can’t say enough about them,” Cameron said.
“One woman who was running ran four miles — then when she handed off the torch, she turned around and ran back to her car,” Clallam County Undersheriff Ron Peregrin said.
