Lake Sutherland: Property owners voting until Friday on whether to be taxed over pesky water weed

PORT ANGELES — Lake Sutherland property owners have until Friday afternoon to vote for or against formation of a lake management district to fund control of a noxious, non-native water weed in the lake.

The ballots, being stored in a locked metal box, will be tallied Monday at the commissioners office inside the courthouse.

Ballots must be received by 4:30 p.m. Friday at the courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

Property owners representing about 360 lakeside property owners were asked on the ballot if they wanted to create the lake management district, which if approved would assess each parcel $50 a year to fight Eurasian watermilfoil.

Clallam County Administrator Dan Engelbertson will supervise the vote count, which will be conducted by Auditor’s Office Chief Accountant Stan Creasey and Board of Commissioners Clerk Trish Perrott.
