JUMP! Playground to close for renovations

CHIMACUM — Jefferson County Parks and Recreation will close the JUMP! Playground today through early March.

The closure will allow for the installation of a new play area geared toward toddlers at the playground situated in H.J. Carroll Park, 9884 Rhody Drive, Chimacum.

The new play area is funded by a grant from the Dan Thompson Memorial Fund, administered by the state Developmental Disabilities Council.

Improvements scheduled during the installation include a toddler play area, a bilingual communications board near the new play area, repainting of the climbing orcas grey and white to keep surface temperatures down, and the installation of three shade structures over Sea Snail Plaza, the new toddler play area and over the orcas.

In addition, the fencing near the perimeter trail will be moved closer to the trail, allowing for a more secure enclosed play area, and the chain-link gate will be replaced with a new art gate fabricated by Gunter Reimnitz, a local artist.

The work is scheduled to take up to three weeks to complete, although the shade tarps may not be installed before the mid-March reopening.

A grand re-opening gala is planned for May 3 at the playground.
