In an effort to cut expenses, officials from two Jefferson County fire districts and one in Kitsap County are moving toward a consolidation of services that could lead to an eventual merger of the three districts.
But a spokeswoman for one of the fire districts involved in the discussion said the merger, which would require voter approval, is something that might be considered in the distant future.
“The consolidation is like dating, and the merger would be the marriage,” said Michele Laboda, public information officer for North Kitsap Fire District No. 10.
