Firefighters in Jefferson County didn’t have their sleep interrupted by fireworks-related blazes Friday night, but Independence Day wasn’t as easy for police patrolling the roadways of the county.
About 10 people were arrested in Jefferson County for drunken driving, sheriff’s Sgt. Dale Wurtsmith said Saturday, although he didn’t have the exact number.
It was a busy night for sheriff’s deputies and Port Townsend Police officers, he said.
Wurtsmith praised the officers working the night shift for their efforts taking the intoxicated drivers off the streets.
No major wrecks were reported Friday night, but one alleged drunken driver did crash into a telephone pole on Irondale Road in Port Hadlock on Thursday night.
