PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County elections officials will count about 3,000 ballots today, the last of those trickling in from Election Day-posted mail-in voters.
Three-term Republican County Commissioner Glen Huntingford said Thursday that he wants to wait until all votes had been counted before making any announcement conceding defeat to his Democratic challenger, David Sullivan.
In current tallies posted by the County Auditor’s Office, Sullivan was leading Huntingford 54.5 percent to 45.5 percent — 7,709 votes to 6,420.
Still, with votes to be counted and having worked 12 years as the county commissioner from Chimacum, Huntingford was cautious to immediately admit defeat.
“I decided to wait,” he said Thursday.
Fellow Republican Commissioner Dan Titterness of Port Townsend on Wednesday conceded defeat to his challenger, Democrat Phil Johnson, also of Port Townsend.
Current tallies show Johnson with 8,368 votes, or 59 percent, compared to Titterness’ 5,762, or 41 percent.
Counting starts at 10
County Elections Supervisor Karen Cartmel said pre-inspection of ballots will begin at 9 a.m. today, and counting will begin about 10 a.m.
