JEFFERSON: FIRE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County investigators will know within 11 days whether a criminal act caused a fire that left two families homeless early Monday.

Denise Manly, public information officer for Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 1, said the probe wrapped up Tuesday at the destroyed fourplex at 50 Old Hadlock Road. She said the Jefferson County Fire Investigation Task Force will now sit down to write its report.

The report will be delivered to the Sheriff’s Office within about 10 days.

“They’re done looking over the scene,” said Manly. “At this point, the word is it’s suspicious, but the investigation is not complete.”

She said nothing jumped out at investigators indicating the blaze may have been accidental.

Investigators, she said, will also now interview several individuals whom she didn’t identify.

If the task force determins a criminal act was behind the blaze, Manly said, investigators will turn over the file to the sheriff.
