Nearly 50 percent of Jefferson County’s absentee ballots have been returned to the Auditor’s Office in Port Townsend.
Elections officials said Thursday that 5,723 ballots, or 49.49 percent, were returned by mail or drop-off at the County Courthouse.
A total of 11,564 ballots were issued for the Nov. 4 general election.
About 7,000 more voters are registered to vote at precinct polls on Tuesday.
People voting absentee must return their ballots to the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. Nov. 4, or they must be mailed in time to be postmarked on that date.
