Investigators seek info on writer of threatening letters to Sequim police

SEQUIM — A threatening letter addressed to the Sequim Police Department that set off a terrorism scare last month in a Tacoma postal facility has prompted investigators to offer a reward for information on the sender.

But it’s not the only threatening letter the police department has received.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating the letter and other similar correspondences sent to the agency, though the letter sent last month was the only one with powder inside.

The inspection service also is offering a reward of up to $10,000 through North Olympic Crime Stoppers.

The letter, which challenges the police department to “catch me if you can,” is written in cursive handwriting, is unsigned and had no return address.

It reads as follows:

“We watch the war and forget to defend ourselves. He is among the masses of your enforcement troops. When I am powerful soon, the wrath of God will drive the stake. We need to treat each other fairly. The clock is ticking. Catch me if you can.”

Officials shut down and evacuated 94 employees from their distribution center in Tacoma after postal service employees discovered powder in the letter April 22.
