Interim Port Angeles High School principal made permanent

PORT ANGELES — After two years, Scott Harker’s interim position as principal of Port Angeles High School has been made permanent.

Harker, 44, replaced Michelle Reid in 2004 when she was reassigned to the assistant superintendent position she currently holds.

Harker worked under Reid as assistant principal for four years prior to the move, and was among five candidates being considered for the position on a permanent basis.

“The selection was truly a team process with involvement by staff, students and community members,” Schools Superintendent Gary Cohn said in a prepared statement.

“I believe that Scott’s skills, experiences and . . . relationships on our high school campus make him the best fit.”

Students, staff and community members showed their support for Harker at different community forums, board meetings and in written letters over the past two years, Cohn said.

Harker said all of the support shown to him was wonderful, and that he’s delighted to be the permanent principal.

“It’s a good feeling to know that I’ve been doing something more than keeping a seat warm,” he said.
