Highway 112 intermittently closed for repair work

SEKIU — Storm-related damage will close state Highway 112 near the Rasmussen Creek bridge for 30 minutes to 40 minutes at a time, starting today and continuing through Friday.

The state Department of Transportation said the closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

“It’s not possible to work from the bank or get an excavator over the road,” said Bill Riley, the department’s maintenance superintendent in Port Angeles.

“We will be working a crane, which takes up three-quarters of the roadway.”

Traffic-control crews will regulate traffic through the area, which is about five miles west of the Sekiu River bridge, Riley said.

Winter storms caused shoulder erosion at several locations on Highway 112, and emergency repairs have continued since early of January.
