Both sides of a widened U.S. Highway 101 opened Saturday, marking the first time that the highway is fully four-lane from Lincoln Street in Port Angeles to River Road in Sequim.
Both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane opened at noon, said state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Claudia Bingham Baker.
Road crews planned to open the second eastbound lane late Saturday, Baker said.
The two-year, $60.5 million widening project extended from Shore Road at the west to Kitchen-Dick Road to the east.
A 45 mph speed limit in the construction zone will remain until spring, when warmer, drier weather allows for the final layers of pavement to be laid, Baker said.
