PORT ANGELES – Dr. Tom Locke will update the Clallam County Board of Health today on the investigation of mold in the basement of the Clallam County Courthouse.
Locke, health officer for Clallam and Jefferson counties, is among the people whose offices are on the lower level.
Details on the mold, which a detection dog found in one work station late last month, probably won’t be forthcoming soon, however.
Locke explained that determining the mold’s species is key to treating it – but that there are more kinds of mold than there are species of plants.
The health board will meet at 1:30 p.m. today in the commissioners’ hearing room (160) of the courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
The health department received complaints from its basement employees of headaches, respiratory problems and other symptoms that could be tied to mold.
The detection dog was brought in to check offices in late May.
The dog and a follow-up test revealed mold in one office.
The office was emptied and the employee relocated.
