Green River Mountain Men to bring 1800s to Peninsula on Labor Day weekend

SEQUIM —The Green River Mountain Men’s annual rendezvous will be at the Peninsula Longrifle property off Slab Camp Road on Labor Day weekend.

The re-enactment of the annual fur trappers’ gatherings of the early 1800s will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1.

Shooter’s fee

Event admission is free, but there is a $20 shooter’s fee for ages 13 and older.

Directional signs to guide attendees to the event will be placed along the way.

It will include historic-style campsites and period-dressed re-enactors with many things to see and hands-on opportunities for the entire family.

Events

Black-powder shoots, primitive archery, seminars on fur trade skills and lore, a Dutch oven cooking competition, music, storytelling, children’s activities and a traders’ row are planned.

The Green River Mountain Men is a nonprofit organization of men and women dedicated to educating the community about the pre-1840s fur trade era.
