Fundraiser set for Pink Up Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Pink Up Port Angeles supporters can eat spaghetti for a good cause at the Chestnut Cottage on Thursday.

Dinner will be served by celebrity waiters from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the restaurant at 929 E. Front St., Port Angeles.

Because the event is underwritten by First Federal, all proceeds from the $10-a-plate fundraiser will go to Operation Uplift, a Port Angeles-based group that offers education, information, support meetings, a 24-hour phone line, free clinics, prostheses and wigs to those with cancer.

The celebrity waiters will compete for tips and a basket will be raffled to increase the donation to Operation Uplift.

The dinner is part of a weeklong series of events organized by the Soroptimist International Port Angeles — Noon Club to raise money for Operation Uplift.

This is the second annual Pink Up Port Angeles. Last year, the Soroptimists raised more than of $24,388.67.

The goal this year is $30,000, said fundraising chairwoman Linda deBord.

Today, Soroptimists will “take over the pier,” deBord said.

“We tie pink ribbons on everyone — even the dogs,” she said.

The group will have tables at City Pier in Port Angeles and provide information about resources for cancer patients.

On Friday, the group plans a dinner and auction at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St.

Tickets for Friday’s dinner auction — which will begin at 6 p.m. — are $32, except for those participating in the Pink Up Port Angeles golf tournament Saturday. Registered golfers receive a ticket to Friday’s dinner.

Ticket reservations were due by Tuesday. For more information about tickets, phone Sandy Ruddell at 360-457-7093.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, deBord said.

The fundraising week will finish with a golf tournament at the Peninsula Golf Club at 824 S. Lindberg Road, on Saturday.

Registration is $75, except for members of the golf club, who will pay $50, DeBord said.

To register, phone the golf club at 360-457-6501.

Last Saturday, the fundraising campaign began with the tying of pink ribbons all over downtown Port Angeles, a bake sale at Swain’s General Store and a free breast clinic that Olympic Medical Center provided in partnership with First Federal.

It continued Sunday with a Pooch and Papa Walk.
